6/25/09: EWU Finalizes 09-11 Budget; Vows to Protect Student Instruction as University Moves ForwardCheney, Wash. -
The
Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees Thursday approved a
$204 million operating budget designed to protect student instruction
amid state-mandated budget reductions, ending a collaborative process
that included campus forums, public input to the Board and open
dialogue between University faculty, staff and the administration.
The
budget includes reductions of $13.3 million, resulting in permanent
cuts of more than $26 million during the 2009-11 biennium.
The
budget adopted by the Board authorizes the elimination of 119 positions
– 47 percent coming from vacancies as the result of President Rodolfo
Arévalo’s hiring freeze implemented 15 months ago. Story continued ...
