Fran (Tsuchiyama) Bierig '76
President
B.A. Recreation Administration
District Retail Assistant -Mattel Inc.
Spokane, WA
A perfect day would be sitting on a beach on a sunny day, watching and listening to the waves crashing on the shoreline. Sitting on a beach in Hawaii would be ideal but Coeur d’Alene Lake is a good substitute. It’s one of the things that I miss most from my childhood days in Hilo, Hawaii along with the local food.  I am currently a District Retail Assistant for Mattel, Inc. My days are spent providing IT support, managing the district travel budget and analyzing reports for reps in six states. It’s a change from store visits and special projects and I work from home. With three children, 15-28 year olds, I have been involved with PTG & PTSG for several years. I am the parent that organized Family Nights, Bingo Nights, Sixth Grade Parties, Senior Class Barbecue and Freshmen Activity Nights. If you are at an LC High School Cross Country or Track Meet, you will hear me cheering on my youngest son. My days as a soccer mom has come to an end.

Both kids have already visited the Eastern campus and are quite impressed with the academic offerings...and Swoop. Kevin enjoys playing with his kids, watching movies, walking, coaching t-ball, and working on his web site, bomberfootball.org, which is devoted to his beloved Richland Bombers. Tomlinson
Spokane, WA

Building relationships while creating ease and comfort has been Karene Garlich-Loman’s specialty throughout her diverse career. Karene jokes that she's done everything from flipping burgers at McDonald’s to running highly successful marketing and advertising campaigns for national companies. Karene holds a master's degree from Eastern Washington University in Public Relations and Organizational Communications and is currently working on her PhD at Gonzaga University.

As a Realtor, Karene takes pride in providing the most comprehensive marketing campaign for her sellers. As a result, her home sellers are getting an average of 98% of their list price. Karene is also a Relocation Specialist and strives to provide the same superior service to all of her buyers as she does sellers. Karene recently became a Certified Residential Specialist (the PhD of real estate with only 4% of all Realtors holding the designation). In 2007, she finished in the top 20% of all Realtors in the Spokane Association of Realtors.

When Karene is not selling homes, you’ll find her volunteering with the Spokane Lilac Festival where she just finished up her stint as Vice President of Royalty (shaping the young minds of the Lilac Princesses ) and now serves as Vice President of Communications – ensuring the branding and image of the Festival stays consistent across all mediums.

In her spare time, she enjoys photography, reading, pretending to be a graphic designer, playing with technology, serving in her church, and most of all, spending quality time with her family – which includes her husband; 5 year old twins; 2 bonus daughters; and 2 grandsons – and a whole slew of extended family and friends.
